A fantastic day was held at Lapworth Cricket Club which was celebrating 100 years of village cricket at the Melson Memorial Ground.
Birmingham Branch took part in a 3 way event with Lapworth Cricket Club challenging the Aston Villa Old Stars to a 30 over a side match. FMB set up a number of stalls supported by local traders with craft displays of all kinds.
Even the young children were catered for with a bouncy castle and games.
The weather was kind for a change which all helped to enjoy the cricket and of course the pig roast, bar b que and naturally the bar!
Those who follow Villa enjoyed the presence of some famous old faces such as:-
Chris Nicholl, Gary Shaw, Gordon Cowans, Colin Gibson, Darren Bradley, Neil Rioch, Mark Kinsella, Des Bremner, Brendan Ormsby and more!!
Oh nearly forgot - the score.
Lapworth Cricket Club battled first and scored a massive 178 for 7.
Darren Bradley and Chris Nicholl started Villa's reply with a great stand of 40 but the old lads eventually ran out of steam falling just 28 runs short.
It was a smashing day for everyone especially the 400 yes 400 spectators!
Thanks and well done goes to Birmingham Brach Committee for their continued fund raising efforts which brings ever closer to their goal of purchasing a fully fitted mini bus for the Birmingham Children's Rainbow Hospice.
