Dave Stowell of DDS General Builders was taken on to extend the kitchen, enlarge the bedroom and add a wet room to the Haverfordwest home of David Edwards.

Homeowner David Edwards, who has been disabled for 53 years and needs constant care, was full of trepidation at the amount of dust that the project would throw up, due to his breathing difficulties, and whether he could live around the disruption - but he should not have worried.

Dave demonstrated his normal, courteous working practice throughout, making sure dust was kept to a minimum. On top of that, his care and attention to Mr Edwards went far beyond his role as a first class builder.

Every morning Dave took Mr Edwards a cup of tea before his carers arrived to get him up. During the week the builders broke through from the extension into the house, Dave drove Mr Edwards to and from friends in Sheffield so he would not be affected by the inevitable dust.

Even after the contract finished, Dave continued to call in to make Mr Edwards a cup of tea and check he was comfortable, during a gap in his full time care. He then visited him in hospital and continues to call him regularly to keep in touch. And when Mr Edwards had no transport on weekends Dave lent him his vehicle so his carer could take him out.

All these acts of kindness have helped Mr Edward's to largely overcome his previously depressed state. "I can't speak too highly of Dave, he just thought of everything," said Mr Edwards.

"Have you ever heard of a builder bringing his client tea in bed or popping in to check he's okay when his full-time carer is on holiday? Dave didn't go the extra mile - he went the extra ten miles and nothing was too much trouble for him," he added.

Mr Edwards is absolutely delighted with the building work that has turned his house into a great home and has also made it completely wheelchair friendly. This is thanks to the builder's care in sinking door catches and room dividers into the floor so they don't obstruct the wheelchair wheels.

Mr Edwards said "Over the past 2 years I've had a rough time and I am now confined to a wheelchair almost constantly, although I hope to be able to walk about a little eventually. This building work has made it so much easier to move around my home.

"I am so grateful to Dave Stowell for not only carrying out an excellent project but also for going far beyond the call of duty in ensuring that my quality of life is greatly improved. He thoroughly deserves to be called a Heavenly Builder."
