This conversion of a detached brick-built barn near Tamworth into a delightful four bedroom, two bathroom house is a good illustration of what can be achieved when builder and client work closely together.
The shell of the original building was converted into a country home suited to the owner's antiques. Although the accommodation is relatively compact there is a sense of space throughout and the use of traditional materials unify and link each living area. For example, the ground floor is tiled throughout and warmed with under-floor heating; ceilings are beamed and the locally made plank doors have cast iron fittings.
Upstairs, discreetly positioned velux windows allow light to flood in, and the builder has created more space than his clients' thought possible at this level.
