Introduction
Supported and managed by a host of key industry organisations, the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) aims to raise standards of both workmanship and health and safety within the construction industry nationwide.
The CSCS card will help to drive the cowboys out of the construction industry and by identifying a skilled and experienced workforce, the card will reduce the risk of problems or accidents on site.
What does it mean to the employer?
Employers who don't enjoy dealing with problems or accidents which occur as a result of an incompetent workforce should protect their business and adopt CSCS today.
The CSCS card gives employers an effective way of identifying skilled and experienced professionals. Maybe that's why thousands of companies have taken up the scheme since 1995.
With more and more contracting clients demanding CSCS approved operatives, now's the time for companies to protect both their reputation and their bottom line by insisting their workforce carry CSCS cards.
What does it mean to the employee?
By recognising the abilities of skilled professionals, the CSCS card serves as protection for future employment. In fact, with more and more employers adopting the scheme, the CSCS card will soon become an industry standard. It's no wonder then that new employee memberships are currently running at a rate of one thousand per week.
Joining the scheme is straightforward with NVQs/SVQs or employer references, a safety certificate and a nominal membership fee. However after 31 st December 1997 membership will become more difficult to attain for many trades with NVQs and SVQs becoming a mandatory requirement.
Soon its going to be difficult to get work without a CSCS card so employees should protect their jobs and apply today.
