HMRC will soon be writing to electricians about a time-limited 'Electricians Tax Safe Plan', under which they can pay the tax they owe with lower penalties. Electricians must notify HMRC by 15 May to take advantage of the scheme. Those who do not come forward but are later found to have unpaid tax liabilities will face higher penalties or even, potentially, criminal prosecution. HMRC also plans to crackdown on general builders and tradesmen. See http://nds.coi.gov.uk/content/detail.aspx?NewsAreaId=2&ReleaseID=423290&SubjectId=2
