Lafarge recalls 120,000 bags of cement after health scare

Article

Lafarge is recalling 120,000 bags of Blue Circle cement over concerns that they contain high levels of chromium VI.

The company has said that the cement affected, thought to be around 3,000 tonnes in total, was produced at its Westbury works in Wiltshire before 4 December 2008.

The bags have been on sale throughout the south west of England.

The FMB is warning its Members to be aware of the problem and to take it seriously as high levels of chromium can cause sensitization if it comes into prolonged contact with unprotected skin, and may cause an allergic reaction over a period of time.

FMB Members are requested to contact the FMB if you have any queries about this health alert or have been directly affected.
