Important Notice

2008 NATIONAL AGM & CONFERENCE NOTICE

September 11th to 14th 2008 – Crewe Hall Hotel, Crewe Notice is hereby given that the FMB’s 67th National Annual General Meeting will be held at the Crewe Hall Hotel, Crewe on Friday, September 12th 2008.

Any resolutions, from branch committees or regional councils, intended for debate at the National AGM on Friday, September 12th, must be sent to the Director General’s office by the end of May. This is to ensure that National Council is able to consider any resolutions at its June meeting. All competent resolutions will be published in the August edition of Master Builder magazine.

In accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006, any member unable to attend the AGM in person will be entitled to appoint a proxy on their behalf. The form to appoint a proxy will be included in the Annual Report, which will be circulated in the August 2008 issue of Master Builder or will be available for download from the FMB website.

European Builder Confederation (EBC) Annual Congress 19/20 June 2008, Bucharest, Romania

Recognising that legislation on many issues affecting those involved with the construction industry is being driven by Europe, the FMB became a founder member and an active voice within the European Builders Confederation (EBC). This is a group of national building federations representing small and medium sized building businesses among the member states of the European Union and Switzerland, and represents around 350,000 building employers.

The EBC aims to raise standards in business management and technical application throughout its European membership and will put forward the agreed collective views of any member nation to the European Commission for further action.

under the Presidency of David Croft, the main theme for this year’s EBC Annual Congress is ‘Future Markets for Craft and SMEs in the Construction Sector’. Held over two days with an optional third day on 21 June set aside for sightseeing, delegates will need to pre-book their places before 15 May 2008 by

Find A Builder' website really works

The FMB promotes its members through the ‘Find A Builder’ website. Consumers visit Findabuilder to find a reputable builder, so it provides you with a fantastic opportunity to promote your business.

FMB North West region MasterBond member Chris Maffei of MAF Design and Build in Lancashire does just that, and has recently won a contract worth £250,000 following an enquiry made on the website.

His client whittled her choice of builders down to two, both of whom were invited to tender. MAF Design and Build was awarded the contract – the biggest in the company's history – because of its FMB membership and the MasterBond warranty that Chris was able to offer. Work is due to start any day and will take six months to complete.
