Glyn Machon, FMB Yorkshire & Trent Regional President and Trudy Mackenzie of training provider Esteem Limited congratulated FMB members who had achieved an NVQ level 4 qualification in management.

The FMB secured funding from ConstructionSkills Management & Supervisory Development fund, to deliver management training to 22 FMB members. The ConstructionSkills funding covered 90 percent of the cost of the training and the members contributed the remainder. The training was delivered by Esteem Ltd.

Training was carried out in the FMB Leeds office, and members attended a set of eight workshops, as well as participating in one-to-one advisory sessions with the trainers, which they started in March 2010. This was a big commitment on the part of all the delegates, not only in giving the time to attend the training, but also in implementing their understanding of the various aspects of management in their everyday work, making real changes to the way they managed their teams and their building projects.

The training was wide-ranging, covering not only the legalities involved in employing staff, but how to motivate them, manage performance, communicate well, introduce development cycles and cost benefit analysis, as well as the critical topics of how to recruit and retain good staff. All of this helps to develop not only the individual as a manager, but also helps to give the firm a competitive advantage by getting the most out of the whole team. It also means that the employer can demonstrate their firm’s commitment to training and to achieving excellence through developing their people.

To take advantage of the business opportunities presented by the retrofitting programme, directors and managers will need to be able to motivate and manage their staff teams to go with them, and this training aims to enhance their skills in order to do that.

All the candidates achieved the NVQ qualification, and everyone concerned with the projected, the training providers, the funding providers, and FMB as the facilitator are delighted with their achievements.

Feedback from participants has been excellent, here is a selection of their comments on the NVQ level 4 training:

“This will help me to improve the image of our company”

“The impact of this course will be welcome as an effort to improve communications within the company”

“It will improve clarity on our direction as a firm and on how we will measure our success”

“This will improve our skills as directors, to improve our company and make it more successful in the future”

“It will help us to lead the company forward in the right direction”

100 percent success!
