FJ Charleton Building Contracts Ltd from Ballymartin, County Down beat the cream of Britain’s builders to be crowned the UK’s Master Builder of the Year at this year’s 10th Master Builder of the Year Awards, for their ‘Scotts on the Rocks’ project for David and Freda Scott.
CELEBRATING THE BEST IN BUILDING!
Speaking at the event, FMB’s Director General, Richard Diment said: “The 10th Master Builder of the Year is a landmark event for the FMB, celebrating the best in building.”
He explained: “When we judge the entries, we are looking for solid craftsmanship, excellent customer service and a delighted client. The Awards give clients a chance to publicly thank their builder both for their excellent work and for the consideration shown to them throughout the build.

“For us it is heartening to see that so many clients continue to invest in improving their properties, as well as considering the energy efficiency and sustainability of their homes,”
Richard added. “Our congratulations go to FJ Charleton Building Contracts Ltd for this welldeserved award, but equally our thanks go to David and Freda Scott who nominated them.”
Phil Spencer presenter of C4 Location, Location, Location presented the award to David Charleton and his team for their amazing work in creating a beautiful new cliff top glass and zinc retirement home, based at the foot of the highest peak in the Mountains of Mourne, he said: “Over the last decade properties have reflected major lifestyle changes and builders live in a precarious world – they have to get along with their clients especially as they often have to almost live with them for months. Decisions about homes are personal and builders have to appeal on a personal basis as well as a professional one.” Phil added: “I absolutely take my hat off to you.”

At Ecobuild last month, Paul Morrell, the Government’s Chief Construction Adviser said there were 25 million existing homes to be retrofitted in the UK by 2050, the trouble is he said, there are only 21 million minutes left until then. I make that one minute and 19 seconds per house. Are you OK with that?
