Beautiful New Cliff Top Home
Phil Spencer, presenter of C4 Location, Location, Location presented the award to David Charleton and his team from FJ Charleton Building Contracts Ltd for their amazing work in creating a beautiful new cliff top glass and zinc retirement home, based at the foot of the highest peak in the Mountains of Mourne, for David and Freda Scott of Newcastle.
Total Honesty & Attention to Detail
David Charleton’s task was to create a house that could be used either as a single–storey home for David and Freda’s use or, by opening up the second level, to create a larger home for entertaining family and friends. As well as this, David diverted two natural springs by the home to create a freshwater swimming pool next to the sea.
As client David Scott says: “David’s total honesty, attention to detail, professionalism and modesty set him apart. Bounding with energy, David seemed to be able to put 23½ hours into every day, had a wonderful ability to recruit really good people and delegated so that it all progressed with the minimum of fuss. He is my hero – he certainly deserves to be Master Builder of the Year.”
The Awards
The 10th Master Builder of the Year Awards, a nationwide search by the FMB to find the best builders in Britain, tests the entrant’s technical ability together with their customer service skills. The Awards are unique, as every entrant must be nominated by a satisfied customer.
Speaking at the Awards ceremony, FMB director general, Richard Diment said: “In this our 10th year, we are delighted to celebrate projects from small to large that would otherwise be overlooked. Size is not important. We are looking for solid craftsmanship, excellent customer service and a delighted client. The Awards give clients a chance to publicly thank their builder both for their excellent work and for the consideration shown to them throughout the build.
“For us it is heartening to see that so many clients, such as David and Freda Scott, continue to invest in improving their properties, as well as considering the energy efficiency and sustainability of their homes,”
Richard added. “Our congratulations go to FJ Charleton Building Contracts Ltd for this well-deserved award, but equally our thanks go to David and Freda Scott who nominated them for the award,” said Richard.
