FLASH PROGRAMME UPDATE

FLASH event photo
Previous FLASH events have been very well attended

FMB Training has been working with the Institute for Sustainability to run a series of events in London with the aim of giving members knowledge about the growing market for energy efficient refurbishment work.

Over the past few months, events have featured speakers from the Energy Saving Trust, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Green Gauge Trust, English Heritage, Green Structures Ltd, Metropolitan Housing, and Parity Projects Ltd (amongst others)!

These events have been well-attended, and almost 120 firms are now registered onto the FLASH programme, demonstrating the growing interest in this potentially huge new source of work.

There will be a growing demand for improvements to the energy efficiency of homes as energy prices continue to soar

It has been estimated that at least 14 million homes will require energy efficient retrofitting over the next 10 years, which should act as a springboard for growth for 200,000 SMEs.

The Autumn FLASH events programme will be circulated to FLASH registered members early in October and will include events on:

  • Microgeneration

  • Slimline internal insulation for solid walls

  • Thermal imaging and monitoring of building performance

  • Introduction to retrofit for traditional buildings.

For more information on how to join the FLASH programme, or to book places, contact us by: Email: training@fmb.org.uk Tel: 0207 092 3875.

GROWING DEMAND FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS

It isn’t yet clear exactly what qualifications builders will need in order to access work under the Green Deal, but what is clear is that there will be growing demand for improvements to the energy efficiency of homes, as energy prices continue to soar.

FMB Training is therefore working closely with the External Affairs Team to ensure that we make training available to members to help them to get a share of this work.

FLASH is currently only available to members in London, because of restrictions imposed by the European Union (EDRF) which is funding the programme. However FLASH+ conferences on the topic of energy efficient retrofit are being held around the South East from September 2011.

FMB Training is currently negotiating with funding bodies to provide similar programmes giving this vital information for members in the rest of the UK. We hope to have news to report on that in next month's Master Builder magazine.
