WE START THE YEAR OFF ON A HIGH - JUST AS WE MEAN TO GO ON
We have fantastic news of an FMB member who has outperformed some of the UK’s biggest developers. Candidates for the LABC Warranty Building Excellence Awards were judged on foundations, superstructure, surface finishes, site main areas and site organisation.
FMB Eastern Region member, Francis Jackson Homes, (shown on our cover this month) won two awards:
Development of the Year (11-50 units), for its Walled Garden development, a bespoke development of 26 two, three and four-bedroom homes set behind the historic stone wall of Potterspury House in Northamptonshire; and Overall Developer of the Year for building highquality properties to the highest standards.
Nick Jackson, Managing Director of Francis Jackson Homes said: “We aim to be considerate builders and good neighbours, our philosophy as a developer is to choose locations that we feel we can improve on and support, as well as offer homeowners an ideal place to live in an exceptional home. We are extremely pleased to be recognised as having achieved our goals throughout the year, and specifically on the Potterspury development.”
Francis Jackson Homes attained Level 3 of The Code of Sustainable Homes as a minimum standard at Potterspury, which includes extensive energy, recycling and design standards to protect the environment.

Each winner must display a high standard in technical competency and build quality homes, coupled with an ability to demonstrate project management, organisational skills and customer service. We found Francis Jackson Homes to excel in each of these areas and are very pleased to award them for their remarkable homes and customer service.”
FANCY A BREW?
The FMB has launched a promotion with the ‘Make Mine a Builders’ brand of tea, to get its members onto more than 100,000 kitchen tables around the UK! There’s no denying it - where there’s a builder, there’s nearly always tea. In fact you could be drinking one now as you read this page.
The FMB promotes its members to consumers in many effective ways but this promotion really takes (or dunks?) the biscuit. By teaming up with ‘Make Mine a Builders’ the FMB is on the hunt for the most deserving person or community group to win a ‘building rescue’ worth up to £10,000 which will be carried out by an FMB member.
ASSURED BUILDERS FROM BUILD ASSURE
Here’s some more great news for members, Build Assure is the scheme which has just replaced the NRWB and MasterBond warranty schemes. It will provide confidence to consumers who are considering having building work carried out. It’s actually an improved version of the old MasterBond policy but it will be available direct to the consumer, it can be bought on line and additional benefits will provide peace of mind and ensure that your final account will be paid on time. And if all that wasn’t enough, Build Assure will be able to provide you with competitive premiums for your public liability insurance, employers liability insurance, van, fleet, tools, personal accident, home, contents etc.
