New Housing Developments Bridlington Rd Flamborough.
Two housing developments were undertaken within a few hundred yards of each other on the main road into Flamborough village. "High Toft" a small development of seven dwellings and "Dunnscroft" a site of 12 new dwellings. Both developments were constructed on steeply sloping sites requiring extensive earthworks and reinforced concrete retaining walls.
Externally the design brief was to create a traditional cottage appearance; in particular by using dressed chalk stone which was a traditional building material on the Flamborough headland. However chalk had long since been abandoned for construction purposes in Flamborough.
It was therefore necessary to seek out supplies of local chalk and rediscover the techniques for shaping and walling the stone. Achieving a mortar colour that did not clash badly with the white stone took a great deal of effort.
The results were well received locally and the developments we did in Flamborough went on to win numerous awards including The East Riding of Council's award for "Enhancing the Built Heritage of the East Riding" and the Master Builder of the year run by the Federation of Master Builders.
The projects were undertaken on behalf of a local property development company and were handled from right through from site procurement to the sales & marketing of the completed "turn key" properties; which included internal decoration carpets external hard and soft landscaping.
