Holland Park Mews
"Red Square's attention to detail and quest for perfection ensured we had a wonderful final product where all our original requests from the brief were somehow incorporated."
This Grade 2-listed mews house located in Holland Park required extensive modernisation that retained and enhanced the charm and character of its original features, many dating from its construction in the 19th century.
The client required an expansive interior refurbishment that would improve the amount of natural light that permeated the rear ground and first floor space.
We delivered our comprehensive design and build service, which included working in partnership with English Heritage, structural engineering, concept and detail design, bespoke furniture selection, project management and construction.
Creating a feeling of space was essential. We developed a design scheme that restructured the existing space to create a better flow between rooms and floors, as well as increasing the ceiling height on the ground floor.
By building a floating staircase along the back of the home, beneath a skylight, we brought in cascades of natural light to the lower floors while creating a dramatic feature that linked all three floors.
We believe the details are what distinguish a home. We incorporated clean lines and sleek finishes to create an environment that was modern and sophisticated, using neutral tones and natural materials to enhance the warm and calming atmosphere.
We introduced an audio visual system and a sophisticated lighting scheme that illuminated specific areas and enabled the client to create various moods for working, entertaining or relaxing. We installed under floor heating to remove the need for radiators, which maximised the available space and created a streamlined appearance throughout the house.
The end result was a combination of traditional architecture and contemporary design features and some very happy clients.
