Domestic Slate Roof Repair and Protection
This property was a mid-terrace domestic house with a slate roof, the roof was leaking and in need of repair and the owner was looking to use spray foam insulation to guarantee the roof against any further problems.
A mid-terrace domestic property with an original slate roof, the house was approximately 70 – 80 years old and the roof had been on since the house was built. This property had 3 chimney/flues coming through the roof on the front and back, these were all rendered with mortar around the areas coming through the roof rather than the more modern lead flashings. There was no under-felt on the roof, again this is a more modern feature of roofs, there was simply old mortar pointing on the inside of the roof
The owner of this property had recently paid to fully re-decorate the whole house, however, no attention had been paid to either the roof or the insulation. Once all decoration had been completed, the owner started to notice stains appearing on the ceilings and walls, mainly around chimney breasts.
