Temple Stone London Limited are proficient in various trades in and around the stone industry. With over 20 years of experience in this specific area of the building industry we can offer an expert and reliable service at cost effective prices. Working closely with architects, national heritage and contractors not to mention engineers and the PQS, we are able to identify the clients needs and requirements and can usually help in determining the best course of action, advising on how to work with the budget wisely. Our work blends both public and private sector contracts all over London, from council flats to £40 million houses. No matter who the client is they receive the same professional service from the same conscientious tradesmen. Our objective is to make the building appear untouched, without looking like we have been there at all. Restoration is carried out sympathetically so as not to scar the building.

Case Study 1

Knebworth House Grade 1 Listed.

Half of this Grade 1 listed building was stripped of its deteriorated grotesque gothic stucco profiles and adornments, we were then commissioned to supply exact copies. This was one of the first Grade I listed buildings to have been granted the use of reconstituted stone by English Heritage.

Typical grotesque gothic features include the Green Man, Bat-on-Tunn and Gargoyles. These sit with the more traditional elements of tracery, label moldings and cornice work. Particular attention was made into producing a colour and texture to match that of the original building which had previously been attempted during earlier phases of restoration but had not been achieved.

Case Study 2

Caxton Hall, Westminster SW1

We carried out the cleaning of this grade 2 red brick building (formerly Westminster Town Hall) and cut out and replaced much of the previously water damaged brickwork. Many of the red sandstone profiles were also invisibly restored and, where required, replaced with reconstituted stone units.

The design brief for this contract was essentially to replace or restore all of the buildings original profiles to their original sharpness, but not to leave the building looking as though it had recently been touched, therefore a non abrasive cleaning technique was adopted which removed all of the dirt but none of the patina which gave the building the character of age.
