THE CHIMNEY MAN

A local company who specialize in all apsects of chimney work and fireplace renovation and restoration. I am HETAS registered and also carry out the installation of wood and multi fuel stoves along with all types of solid fuel fires. I am a masonry specialist and carry out all aspects of traditional lime work with many years of experience working on both heritage and conservation projects. I am a working at height specialist and believe quality is equally as important as economics.I provide free advice and consultations and will happily provide references on request.

Case Study 1

Eastcombe Baptist Church

This was a large project on a Grade 2 Listed building, this involved extensive masonry repairs which included the replacement of stone cills and quorns, the resiting of the original kneeler stones and rebedding the copings as they were about to collapse onto a public highway. The whole of the rear gable end was repointed and extensive stitching was required to the masonry as the whole of the rear of the building had been repointed with a cement mortar creating lots of damage to the original stone, these materials needed to be matched with the original and i am very pleased with the end product. The original 17th century stain glassed window was restored along with the two large windows which involved replacement of glazing, mullions and framework, the chimney was repaired along with various roof repairs also. I had previously carried out repairs to the chimney stacks and fireplace on the Manse adjoining and carried out the partial rebuild of one its gables where the large stone seperating the flues had collapsed internally.

Case Study 2

Fireplace renovation and stove installation

This is just one of many installations carried out. There was an old solid fuel fire sited within the aperture, this all had to be removed and the actual opening created to the customers requirements which involved building false piers on to the original chimney breast and sourcing a large piece of oak to use as a mantel.

I had a nice slate hearth cut at a friendly reclamation yard and pigmented the mortar to bed this down, the fireplace is lined with a fire retardent board as plaster or render would just collapse from the heat generated from the stove and this can be decorated in any colour.
