CUT VAT NOW ON HOME REPAIR AND IMPROVEMENT WORK
249,000 workforce jobs have been lost in the construction sector since 2007 according to the Office for National Statistics. Cutting the current rate of VAT from 20% to 5% on all home repair, maintenance and improvement work will create thousands of new jobs to help repair this damaging loss and bring about significant economic benefits. The advantages for law-abiding businesses would be countless and households would also benefit from better protection against rogue traders. Furthermore, this targeted VAT cut would, in a simple single act, do more to motivate homeowners and landlords to make their homes greener than any other policy measure.
