Consultations and Briefings

The FMB makes representations to government and parliament on behalf of its members. This involves responding to consultations, inquiries and legislative proposals. The FMB’s Health and Safety, Homebuilders, and Training groups inform and influence the FMB’s policy agenda.

The FMB is always keen to hear members’ views on relevant topics in the day to day running of their businesses and opinions on forthcoming consultations.

The Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation consultation

Submission
The FMB has responded to the Government's consultation on the Green Deal, which will allow households and businesses to make energy efficiency improvements to their buildings at no upfront cost. We have also written to the Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Greg Barker MP, with responsibility for the Green Deal policy to underline our recommendations for improving the scheme.

The FMB supports the Government’s ambitions to make our existing building stock more energy efficient and greener. However there are three major issues that we believe should be addressed in order to help ensure the Green Deal is a success. These are the urgent need to create demand in the market for the Green Deal package; how small business will access the Green Deal market; and lastly the framework within which the building industry is expected to train and upskill installers to carry out Green Deal approved work.
