Consultations and Briefings

The FMB makes representations to government and parliament on behalf of its members. This involves responding to consultations, inquiries and legislative proposals. The FMB’s Health and Safety, Homebuilders, and Training groups inform and influence the FMB’s policy agenda.

The FMB is always keen to hear members’ views on relevant topics in the day to day running of their businesses and opinions on forthcoming consultations.

Consequential improvements for existing buildings

Submission
The FMB has responded to the Government's proposed changes to Part L of the Building Regulations (conservation of fuel and power) to introduce requirements for consequential improvements in existing buildings.

A survey of FMB members on the proposed changes suggested that the proposal to require consequential improvements upon extensions in existing homes would be impractical, unpopular and easily evaded. Overall our view is that the objective is the right one but the method for achieving it must be based on incentives rather than compulsion if it is to be effective.
