The Protection of Freedoms Act recieved Royal Assent on 1st May 2012. The Act will result in a scaled back vetting scheme, restrict positions requiring Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks and make checks protable between jobs. Changes wil start to come into effect from 10th September 2012, see www.homeoffice.gov.uk/crime/vetting-barring-scheme/
Don't forget that FMB has teamed up with CAPITA vetting services who will undertake CRB checks for members at preferential rates,Tel: 0870 850 2516
State that you are an FMB member and quote your FMB number. CAPITA acts as an umbrella body able to process CRB checks.
Unfortunately the are not able to process requests by sole traders or the self employed. These members should ask the employing client (local authority, education authority or NHS body etc.) to process the CRB check on their behalf.
