28th January 2009 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Federation of Master Builders Scottish Director Graham Barn has spoken angrily following the fall of the Scottish Budget yesterday evening.
Speaking after the Budget debate Grahame Barn said:
“If the Scottish construction industry is to have any realistic chance of surviving this recession we need mature politicians who put the interests of Scotland above narrow party interest. The collapse of the Budget will have a huge impact on the construction industry with many public sector construction projects now being delayed or put at risk.”
“The FMB represents those hardest hit by the recession, the small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), and the backbone of the economy. This is the time when Scotland’s politicians should be focussed on helping small businesses, not engaging in political squabbling. MSPs must set aside party political differences and work together to ensure that there is agreement on the Budget; the last thing business needs at the moment is for the Budget to fail for a second time and an election to be called.”
