Stratton Audley builder is best in Britain

Sporn Construction Ltd from Stratton Audley, Oxfordshire beat the cream of the country’s builders to become the UK’s Best Commercial Builder at this year’s 10th Master Builder of the Year Awards which took place today.

Phil Spencer, presenter of C4 Location, Location, Location presented the award to Robin Sporn and his team from Sporn Construction Ltd for their work on transforming two 14th century Cotswold stone barns in Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, which owners Richard and Amanda Matthews wanted converted into a wedding venue.

Robin’s task was to achieve Richard and Amanda Matthews’ dream of restoring the neglected barns within a timeframe of 8 months, to be ready in time for the very first wedding – that of the Matthews’ daughter Kate.

As client, Richard Matthews, and venue manager, Kate, said: “As a business, commitment and attention to detail is central to us and this was reflected by that of Sporn Construction Ltd.  The craftsmanship is absolutely second to none. The clients absolutely love it.  In 2011 – our first full year – we have 80 weddings booked already.   Everyone is full of praise for the standard and charm of the buildings.”

The 10th Master Builder of the Year Awards, a nationwide search by the Federation of Master Builders to find the best builders in Britain, tests the entrant’s technical ability together with their customer service skills.  The Awards are unique, as every entrant must be nominated by a satisfied customer.

Sporn Construction Ltd triumphed to win the national award in the Commercial category, which is supported by AON and Santander Business banking.

Speaking at the Awards ceremony, FMB director general, Richard Diment said: “In this our 10th year, we are delighted to celebrate projects from small to large that would otherwise be overlooked. Size is not important. We are looking for solid craftsmanship, excellent customer service and a delighted client. The Awards give clients a chance to publicly thank their builder both for their excellent work and for the consideration shown to them throughout the build.

“For us it is heartening to see that so many clients, such as Richard and Amanda Matthews, continue to invest in improving their properties, as well as considering the energy efficiency and sustainability of their homes,” Richard added.

“Our congratulations go to Sporn Construction Ltd for this well-deserved award, but equally our thanks go to Richard and Amanda Matthews who nominated them for the award,” said Richard.

Robin Sporn and Richard and Amanda Matthews each win a luxury all inclusive weekend break for two at any of the UK Barceló Hotels.
