Get Britain Building Fund Will Help Deliver More Homes, says the FMB

Thursday 21st June 2012 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Government’s decision to extend its ‘Get Britain Building’ fund is a welcome boost to help deliver home homes and jobs in the construction industry says the Federation of Master Builders (FMB). The Government has announced it is inviting bids for additional Get Britain Building funding for building sites in which upwards of 15 homes are being built.

Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB said:
“It’s very good news that the Government has recognised the value of smaller developments to deliver much needed new homes. Smaller housing developments are often more acceptable to local communities because they are more sympathetic to their local needs. They also have the benefit of providing more local jobs which is good for the local economy.”

Berry concluded:
“Additional help the Government could provide to help increase the supply of homes would be to reduce the tax burden on small house builders by providing a blanket exemption from the soon to be implemented Community Infrastructure Levy which will add around £43,000 to the cost of a building a two bedroom house in some parts of the country.”
