Monkseaton Community High School were the winners of the Creative Spaces competition which was organised by CITB-Construction Skills as part of the National Construction Week initiative. Creative Spaces offered Key Stage 3 pupils the opportunity to experience the excitement and challenges of the construction industry by looking at areas of the school that could be improved and coming up with detailed plans for how to do this.
The winning project was the redesign of the outdated toilet block and the installation of clean, hygienic and innovative toilet 'pods'. The £50,000 from CITB-ConstructionSkills should help to achieve this.
The FMB and its members were enthusiastic supporters of National Construction Week 2003, organising trips to building sites and achieving national media coverage.
NCW 2004 will be held on 6th to 13th October.
