A Strathaven firm of builders that completed a unique development of 42 new homes at Sandford, Strathaven, has won one of the building industry's highest accolades.
Alistair Laurie, of Laurie Construction, Sandford, was awarded a Master Builder of the Year 2000 Special Mention Award for the design and construction of the new homes. He received his prize from Cheryl Baker at a special ceremony held in London today (5th December).
The Master Builder of the Year is unique because customers are invited to nominate their favourite builder. Quality of workmanship, running to schedule, meeting the budget and a good attitude to providing a high level of customer service, all score highly with the award judges in selecting the UK's best builders and craftsmen.
Laurie Construction designed and built the new homes to the specifications of the 34 original properties. Said the judges: "The benefits to the village are already evident."
The company was nominated by Derek Diamond of Glasgow who said:
"The reason I have nominated Laurie Construction is because the builders carried out the complete package from design, making timber kits, forming roads and installing a new sewerage system. Laurie Construction is a credit to the industry."
The Master Builder of the Year scheme 2000 - sponsored by leading industry body, the Federation of Master Builders, and Jewson, the UK's largest timber, builders' and plumbers' merchant - was established three years ago to highlight the quality and standard of building in the UK.
