Goodwick Firm Nominated Among UK's Best Builders - Shipwreck Timbers Transform Welsh Cottage

A Goodwick firm of builders that completely restored and renovated a traditional Welsh cottage within the Pembrokeshire National Park has won one of the building industry's highest accolades.

Domenico and Rafael Colella of Pinestrike, Harbour Village, Goodwick, were awarded a Master Builder of the Year 2000 Building Excellence Award for restoring a traditional cottage through using reclaimed materials and techniques not seen for over fifty years. They received their prize from Cheryl Baker at a special ceremony held in London today (5th December).

The Master Builder of the Year is unique because customers are invited to nominate their favourite builder. Quality of workmanship, running to schedule, meeting the budget and a good attitude to providing a high level of customer service, all score highly with the award judges in selecting the UK's best builders and craftsmen.

According to the judges:

"The outstanding property has been refurbished to the highest standards using materials, where possible, sourced from Wales. The beams for the roof were originally reclaimed from shipwrecks washed up on Whitesands bay!"

Nominating Pinestrike, client Patrick Henchoz of Farnham, Surrey said:

"The quality of workmanship exceeded our expectations. As we live 250 miles away, constant communication was necessary. The builders have successfully transformed a damp unloved property into a 'home' that matches the setting. It has to be seen to be fully appreciated."

The Master Builder of the Year scheme 2000 - sponsored by leading industry body, the Federation of Master Builders, and Jewson, the UK's largest timber, builders' and plumbers' merchant - was established three years ago to highlight the quality and standard of building in the UK.

Domenico and Rafael Colella were presented with their prize, a Renault Kangoo van, at an awards lunch at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. Clients, Patrick and Debbie Henchoz, were rewarded with a £1,500 luxury holiday for nominating the successful builder.
As well as the coveted Master Builder of the Year 2000 trophy, Ken Farnham was presented with a Renault Master Van. The four Building Excellence award winners each won a Renault Kangoo van, and their nominating customers were rewarded with a £3,000 luxury holiday.
