Last call to find nation’s best builder!

Enter your builder for the Master Builder of the Year Awards 2005 and win yourself a fantastic £3,000 holiday.

If you’ve had building work completed in the past 12 months and you were delighted with it, then why not enter your builder for these national awards and see their name and your home in lights. The deadline for entries is May 31st 2005.

No project is too large or too small, and remember, it’s not only the quality of building skills that are assessed, judges are also looking for high levels of customer satisfaction and after sales service.

This year Sarah Beeny, presenter of Channel 4’s Property Ladder, has added her support to the FMB’s nationwide search for the best builder. "We want to see small and medium-sized builders, who have excelled in both customer service and workmanship, rewarded for their hard work. Entries are coming in thick and fast which shows that customers really do appreciate a job well done."

Entries to date include the largest thatched house in Ireland, restoration of a 300-year old Nottingham farmhouse which has been empty for 7 years, a stunning Merseyside kitchen extension, a beautiful orangery built on to a Victorian house in Leeds, and a picture postcard thatched garage with living area extension to a Hertfordshire home.

Other entries include the renovation of a Kings Lynn watermill, building a state-of-the-art fruit bat enclosure for Bristol Zoo, a million pound new home in Sussex, a clever new building in the garden of an existing Edinburgh home, the challenging construction of a new home on a steeply sloping Northumberland site and the renovation of a beautiful Cheltenham farmhouse.

Entries in the energy efficiency category include a Kent builder who built solar panels and a rainwater recycling system into a new home and a Hertfordshire builder who installed a recycled newspaper roof.

In the new Heavenly Builder category, one of the entrants is a Peterborough builder whose clients left for a two week holiday and returned to find the work completely finished. In the popular apprentice category, a young painter and decorator has been nominated for their stunning work on a Grade II listed Dorset home.

The competition is open to ALL builders and with eight award categories, there’s even more chance to win! The award categories cover a very wide range of projects from domestic renovations under £100,000 to restorations over £100,000, from a new build by a builder who constructs fewer than 50 new homes a year, to a commercial new build or refurbishment project of up to £3million. There’s also a category for Apprentice of the Year. This year the FMB has added three new categories - energy efficiency, conservatories, and the "Heavenly Builder" category for outstanding customer service - so there really is a category for everyone.

The customer who nominates the winning builder will win a fantastic £3,000 holiday of their choice. There are also prizes of luxury weekend breaks, courtesy of the Paramount Hotel Group, for each of the national category winners and their clients. The National Winner, the Master Builder of the Year 2005, will drive off in their choice of van from Nissan’s extensive Light Commercial Vehicle range.
