The search is on for Britains most 'heavenly' builder - and if you know one, you could win a £3,000 holiday
The building industrys largest trade association, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), has added a new category in this year's Master Builder of the Year Awards to find the UK most heavenly builder..
The search is on for a builder who has not only completed a great job for their customer, but has also done that little bit extra to make the relationship work, whether by helping out with the pets or children or simply through being a pleasant person to have around the house.
The Heavenly Builder category applies to smaller building firms where the builder has demonstrated outstanding levels of customer service.
Ian Davis, director general of the FMB said: "Often customers have to live with builders in their homes for several months whilst the building work progresses and it is therefore vital that there is a good personal relationship between homeowners and their builder. It seems that builders who are willing to do that little bit extra to make the project work are really appreciated by their customers and make for a really successful building project."
Regional winner of last years Master Builder of the Year Awards, Peter Temple of Cumbrian firm PW Temple Ltd, created a "feel good factor" for homeowners Bob and Penny Fowler. Aside from the fantastic building work, Bob Fowler said: "He went well beyond the call of duty, even teaching us how to pluck pheasants and how to deal with a very persistent labour of moles."
The Heavenly Builder of the Year is one of eight individual categories in the 2005 Master Builder of the Year Awards, which is open to any UK builder, from a large commercial firm to a sole trader - but the customer must nominate the builder.
Entries do not have to be the biggest or the most complicated projects and this year there are three new categories, including energy efficiency, to make sure the competition is open to as many builders as possible.
Regional winners will be chosen for each category and they will then go forward to the national awards. The overall winner will receive a Light Commercial Vehicle of their choice from Nissans extensive range and the person who nominates the winning entry will win a £3,000 holiday!
Sarah Beeny, presenter of Channel Fours Property Ladder, is supporting this years awards: "Building projects need careful planning, good communication and some really hard work to produce great results. So, if your latest project worked well and youre proud of the work, why not enter your builder for the awards? The Master Builder of the Year Awards 2005 provides the perfect opportunity for homeowners to give praise where it is due."
You will find more details and an entry form at www.findabuilder.co.uk or by calling freephone 08000 152 522. The closing date for entries is 31st May and the winners will be presented with their awards by Sarah Beeny, on September 8th 2005.
