A delegation of FMB members from the South West met the Inland Revenue on 30 January 2003 for fruitful discussions on the reform of CIS.
Speaking after the meeting, FMB South West Regional Director Jeremy Chapman said,
"This was a tremendous opportunity for smaller builders in the South West to express their views on the important issue of CIS reform. We were very pleased that the Inland Revenue was able to meet us and look forward to continued dialogue on the reform of CIS."
FMB Director of External Affairs, Andrew Large, who also attended the meeting added,
"The Inland Revenue responded positively to our concerns on issues such as false self-employment, verification and enforcement. Many FMB members have been concerned about CIS and the FMB will continue to participate fully in the Inland Revenue's reform process to ensure that the reformed scheme meets the need of smaller builders."
Key issues that were discussed during the meeting include:
- Employment status
- Scope of CIS
- Registration and Verification of CIS status
- Inland Revenue enforcement practice
- Best practice in the management of CIS by builders
