Introduction
Women's roles in the construction industry is often behind the scenes, but critical to the effective running of a business. That is why we decided to run a Women Leaders in Construction Course, specifically designed for women managers working within its member firms. This course recognises that there are challenges unique to women in the construction industry and is focussed on increasing confidence, handling difficult people and situations, and meeting the challenge of being a woman in a 'man's world'. Developing everyone in your team to their full potential can only benefit the business bottom line and help to retain key staff.
Who should do this course?
Women working in construction often have experience in other sectors, and sometimes take up key business roles with little or no training specific to the construction industry. Therefore this course offers support for women from a variety of backgrounds and levels, whether you are looking for support to reach the highest levels of management, or gaining confidence to get back into work or adapt to the distinctive construction sector.
Structure of the course
The course consists of eight sessions which cover key issues that affect women working in the construction industry. The course runs once a month to ensure they are convenient for members. One participant said the timings of the course ensured it fit around her work and childcare commitments, and is not overly intensive. As well as ensuring people learn a lot from the course, participants have described it as “fun and enjoyable” and “something to look forward to”.
