The Federation of Master Builders

Builders Merchant Award

The inaugural winner of the new Builders Merchant Award is Parker Building Supplies, a leading independent builders merchant serving the South East of England. The judges were impressed by the culture, both as a place to work and a company to do business with.

Parker Building Supplies views itself as much more than a builders’ merchant, actively promoting its capabilities as a solutions provider and problem solver. Its innovative time and cost saving ideas help customers add greater efficiency to their own business.

To stay at the top of its game, the company constantly reinvests back into the business andimplements fresh ideas to enhance customer service. A recent programme of investments has already increased annual turnover by a whopping £4m to £56m.

A series of branch upgrades enabled Parker Building Supplies to offer a one-stop collection service from kitchens and bathrooms to joinery, plumbing supplies and high end architectural ironmongery. Meanwhile the opening of its first specialist home improvement centre, Project Home, has brought all its customers’ home improvement needs under one roof.

Delivery to site remains an important service, with Parker Building Supplies recently adding four new HGV’s, five Transit tipper vans and three Transit plumbing vans to its fleet.

The company also introduced new technology and industry leading software to enable further innovations. On top of that its online business is thriving, with a 20% increase in visitors and 10% increase in online sales in the past year.

Parkers has always supported the training and career progression of its staff and apprentices. It has now gone one step further and set up a dedicated training academy to ensure it always has qualified staff ready to progress up the career ladder and continue to best serve the company’s customer base.

Staff are also encouraged to participate in Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Their fundraising effort has raised an incredible £75,000 for chosen charity the Teenage Cancer Trust.
