Penrith based building company, Carrock Design & Build, scooped a top industry gong at the 12th Federation of Master Builders' (FMB), Master Builder of the Year Awards on Wednesday 18th February. The company walked away with the award for New Home Project of the Year for the construction of an eight-tiered period property in St. Bees.
Home owners David and Julie Cox bought the land within the grounds of Grade II listed building Fleatham House in early 2011 but were confined by strict planning regulations because of the surroundings. This did not hamper the success of the project in any way thanks to Carrock's ability to make the new house fit in perfectly with the surrounding area.
The judges commented on the period detail of the house and the difficulties of working on, not just a site with tight planning regulations, but one which was also on a steep slope that led to the construction of eight separate floor levels within the property.
Despite the problems encountered, the team at Carrock created a stunning home. "The overall quality of finish is outstanding," David said. "We're very pleased with how all the spaces work together exactly as we intended them to – particularly when the children are home and we're entertaining – we're all very happy here."
Charlie Luxton, architectural designer and TV personality recently seen in More4's Building the Dream, presented the coveted prize to the Carrock Design & Build team at the awards ceremony in London.
The 12th Master Builder of the Year Awards, a nationwide search by the FMB to find the best builders in Britain, looked at the builders' technical ability together with their customer service skills. The awards are unique, as every entrant must be nominated by a satisfied customer.
