Border Oak Design & Construction were regional winners of two awards at the FMB Midland Master Builder Awards 2017, for the Commercial Project and Energy Efficient Project categories.
They received both awards for their inventive work on the construction of a brand new, oak framed village hall in Oving, Buckinghamshire. The building has a traditional wooden aesthetic with modern features such as photo-voltaic solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system. The execution of this project was exactly what the clients had asked for, a sustainable building that has become an important and well used community facility. Border Oak was incorporated in 1980 - pioneering the revival of green oak framing across the UK and worldwide.
We are a family run business and employ more than 120 experienced and passionate staff, with unrivalled knowledge and unique skills. Our aim is to design and construct the finest oak frames possible, whilst offering exceptional service and unbeatable value.
We have an innate appreciation of oak framing and the wider construction industry, developing over four decades into true market leaders. We believe in preserving heritage skills through innovation, and our portfolio is testament to the wide spectrum of projects we have delivered.
All of our buildings are bespoke - designed to reflect your site, your budget and your aspirations. We respond accordingly and appropriately to individual circumstances, utilising our experience to provide solutions and our vision to create buildings of character.
We can provide a full build and project management service, but are also happy to work with appointed architects and builders. All of our frames are made by hand, using traditional medieval carpentry techniques, so we are not limited or restrained by machine or computer. However, we do use advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD) packages to design our buildings and ensure we meet and exceed all industry standards and regulations.
We build between 50-75 projects each year, and our portfolio includes homes, commercial buildings, museums, garages, retail and education buildings as well as porches and potting sheds.

Oving Village Hall - Winner of Energy Efficient and Commercial Project at the FMB Midland Master Builder Awards 2017

Border Oak constructed a brand new oak-framed village hall in Oving, Buckinghamshire. The end result is a beautiful building that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. The hall provides a flexible and attractive meeting space for the local community that blends in with the rural setting. 
We designed the building to appear traditional, but have modern practicality and technology. It features 21st century sustainable technology by way of photo-voltaic panels on the roof, a rainwater harvesting system (the water collected is used to flush the toilets) and a ground source heat pump that creates the heat for the under-floor heating system. In addition, the hall is extremely well insulated to prevent heat loss and minimise the need for additional heating. 
The clients were more than happy with the project and the building had become an important focal point of the local community.

Contemporary Live/Work Dwelling

Acting as a second Show House for Border Oak, a large contemporary manor house constructed from structural oak frame and SIPs with large open plan areas and an attached glazed study. Externally clad in vertical oak boarding and Border Oak blend bricks and roof tiles to blend into the surroundings.

Construction cost: £690,000
Construction time: 12 months
