Starting my building career as an apprentice plasterer with one of the best craftsman in the North Devon, I learnt that precision was a very important quality in this environment. Whether it be a complicated moulded cornice ran in situ or something as simple as a traditionally plastered wall, I always had that attention to detail.
Four years later, I began working for a construction firm where I put myself back into college and onto a bricklaying course. I realised at this point that this is where I wanted to take my career.
After several years of learning the trade and gaining experience, I set up my own business 'Duck Egg Construction'. Since trading, Duck Egg Construction has undertaken a variety of works including barn conversions, bespoke new builds, structural works and extensions, and these can be seen in our case studies.
Over the years we have developed a strong, friendly and reliable team who together, complete our jobs to an exceptionally high standard.

With stonework, larch cladding, a Catnic SSR2 roofing system and aluminium anthracite doors and windows, the outside includes a nice contrast of materials. The inside has an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with underfloor heating throughout which were finished with an engineered oak floor. This job started as a straight forward renovation. After some investigation we had discovered that the entire front of the house was not built on a foundation. This meant we had to temporarily prop the back elevation of roof, strip the front pitch of roof completely back, take down gable ends and drop the masonry face of the building. We then had a blank canvas so we dug new foundations and rebuilt back up to wall plate then cut the front elevation of roof back into the exact place as before to then pick up the back elevation again.
Not only did this job come with its structural complications but it also had a narrow access and Covid 19 also hit when we were undergoing this project which made materials even harder to get. After 11 months we are so happy with the outcome. The property has beautiful views which are maximised with the modern, open and simplistic design.

Duck Egg construction were excellent throughout the rebuilding of our house. The works to be completed were taxing as the site was on a steep incline with limited access.
