New Leaf completed the extensive renovation of a Grade II listed cottage in Castle Combe, the Cotswolds. The old building presented quite a few challenges, including the low ceilings, winding narrow stairs and limited access. We overcame these, however, to add a loft conversion, dormer window installation, new bathroom and new kitchen extension. We transformed the loft into a bedroom with en-suite, using original Elm floorboards. The key feature is the kitchen. Due to the house backing on to a slope, we had to dig out a substantial area to build the extension. The kitchen has a wooden glazed screen and bi-folding doors to create open, light space. We had to be sympathetic in our build and use of materials as the location was within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The kitchen of this project won best Kitchen or Bathroom Project at the FMB Midland Master Builder Awards 2017.
