Perhaps you’re a dab hand at DIY projects, or maybe you’re absolutely useless around the home. Recent research from the FMB allows you to compare your DIY skills to thousands of others across the nation – you can find out where your DIY skills rank!

We asked 2,000 home owners from right across the UK what jobs they had done around the home and the results might surprise you…

The full results are outlined below:

The most common job that home owners have done is painting a wall or piece of furniture. A massive 78 per cent of home owners have done this job. Painting a wall can breathe a new lease of life into a room and can really help to make your house feel like a home. For tips on how to choose your perfect colour scheme, read this recent blog post from the Home Owner Blog.

Three-quarters of home owners have hung photo frames on a wall, and this was closely followed by 73 per cent of people having put flat pack furniture together.

By way of contrast, just half of home owners have ever put up a shelf or steam cleaned a carpet.

If you’re in the minority and if all these jobs sound like too much work, or perhaps you just don’t have the time and you want to hire a professional, make sure to use the FMB’s ‘Find a Builder’ service to help find the right building firm for you.
