FMB Scotland and Local Authority Building Standards Scotland (LABSS) began a partnership in 2016 to improve the verification process and experience within Scotland.
LABSS is a not-for-profit membership organisation which represents Scotland's 32 local authority building standards services. The only appointed verifier for their geographical area. LABSS members work to protect the public interest by ensuring that all new buildings and those being altered, extended or converted comply with the building regulations and technical standards.
They approve plans for building warranty and agree a site inspection process before the construction phase starts. LABSS members inspect work on site and seek to ensure that buildings meet reasonable standards to enable the acceptance of completion certificates.
During 2016, LABSS plan to engage with FMB Scotland members to explain how LABSS members can work with members to improve the building verification process and experience. LABSS will take this initiative forward by developing joint training and information for FMB members.
