Women in construction: Would you prefer a female builder or tradesperson?
If you’d feel more positive about a female builder or tradesperson completing a task in your home, then you’re not alone.
Research by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) reveals that a third of UK home owners would rather hire a female builder, as opposed to a male builder.
The research, which coincides with International Women’s Day on 8th March 2018, explores public opinion on female builders and tradespeople across the UK.
The results reveal that while consumer sentiment about women in the building industry is positive, parents are still less likely to encourage their daughters to pursue a career in construction than their sons.
Why women should consider a career in construction
The FMB believes the construction sector can appeal to anyone who takes pleasure in the built environment and is calling on all parents, teachers and careers advisers to encourage young women to consider a career in construction.
