Case Studies

Chimney Renovation Henfield

One of the aspects of building work that I most enjoy is learning how to work on ancient buildings. It offers not only the chance to understand the techniques used by master builders in past centuries but the opportunity to learn new skills and use different materials.

I was priviledged to be able to consult with an advisor from SPAB (the Society for the Presevation of Ancient Buildings) who was able to concur with the method/materials I suggested to remain in keeping with the rest of the building and preserve the intergrity of the structure.

In order to renovate this old building sympathetically we re-pointed the chimney with lime NHL 3.5 Mortar to match the existing, the cap was re-built in cement mortar.

The initial problem that brought the client to us was that the chimney stack had deteriorated to the extent that it was unsound and was leaking. I'm pleased to say that neither gale nor foul weather is an issue now and it has been well and truly tested this Autumn!

Extension Peacehaven

This project has just been completed, November 2016.

It's been a great job as the extension has been from the ground up so we were able to see it through from beginning to end. This means it is built is to the highest spec with none of the "idiosyncrasies" that we sometimes see when refurbing or in the period housing stock we so often work on locally.

The shallow pitch -15 degrees- caused us some puzzling but after some fairly intense discussion and a bit of research we found exactly the right product to tile the roof.

Conversion - Betting Shop to a Home

The conversion of a Ladbrokes betting office back into a residential property in Hove.

A bespoke project which encompassed many individual design features to create a longed for home from what was essentially a shell once all the commercial fittings and walls had been removed.

A fun project with a few challenges along the way. The end result is a stunning, warm family home which runs as efficiently as is possible in a period building. Everybody Happy

Out Building Project in Rural Kent

This was a project based out in Kent, very near to Paddock Wood. The travel was a bit of a pain, but the job was fantastic and more than made up for the long commute.

The building was a new build and the brief was for a storage/workshop facility, although I have a feeling that as it’s so cosy now with the insulation it may be used as a place to relax in on those summer/winter days (it has heating!) .

The build was carried out under permitted development and the client wanted it to be in keeping with the house and garage, the house being a converted Oast house.

The whole job was a thoroughly good experience and a resounding success. Many thanks to Brian and Elaine for the work and of course the hospitality while we were there.

I just need to get the completion pictures from Brian but he says the space is indeed truly multi-purpose, serving as everything from a workspace to a glamping unit for when extended family pitch up!

We are due back this year to push on with the other projects that are in progress., looking forward to it.

We will be back !
