Coldwells Building Company is a family-run building contractor, co-founded in 2016 by husband and wife, Ross and Clare Booth.

Ross is an experienced joiner and project manager. He perfected his trade on building sites around Aberdeenshire and qualified as a joiner in 2007. He’s held senior positions on major residential and commercial builds in Australia, Canada and London.

Clare is a journalist by trade and has worked as a broadcast reporter and executive producer in newsrooms across Australia and London. Communication is her speciality, so no email or client query goes unanswered.

Coldwells employs a team of seven joiners and builders and specialises in domestic construction. We build extensions, renovations, new homes and conversions throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. As a small business, we manage no more than two projects at a time. This enables us to maintain a high level of personal commitment to each project and develop trusted relationships with our clients.

Each project is built to match a client’s construction budget, making it a transparent and smooth process for all parties. We provide a full project management service, which includes:

  • Plan, monitor and coordinate the entire construction phase
  • Manage all trades and subcontractors required on site
  • Collaborate with architects and project engineers for the duration of the project
  • Provide clients with a detailed job schedule, outlining the project duration, the dates each trade will be on site and the work to be undertaken
  • Manage health and safety throughout the construction phase
  • Prepare a Construction Phase Plan before work commences (under CDM 2015 Regulations)
  • Regularly communicate and update clients on job progress
  • Ensure all workers have site-specific inductions and have the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their work safely
  • Communicate with neighbours before construction begins
  • Advise on construction materials
  • Deep clean at completion of project
  • Post-construction meeting with clients

We pride ourselves on training local people through recognised apprenticeship schemes and source our materials from local suppliers.

Coldwells Building Company passed an independent inspection and met strict criteria to become members of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) in 2017. As FMB members, we have committed to abide by a stringent Code of Conduct for building quality.

Glass, Zinc and Granite Extension and Renovation

We are absolutely delighted with the renovations and extension that Coldwells completed for us. A highly professional and friendly service from the whole team, and the finish throughout was excellent. Would not hesitate to recommend.

We were particularly impressed by Coldwells eye for detail, very friendly and professional approach. They would always follow through even with the smallest of details and really care that the finish is as high quality as possible often coming up with clever ways around issues that popped up. I would recommend without hesitation.

Two storey extension, Kintore Aberdeenshire

Coldwells have just completed our two storey extension & we couldn't be happier. From the outset it was clear that Ross and his team would deliver a professional service. The project management was excellent from start to finish. We received great communication throughout, even in the evening & at weekends. The team undertaking the work were trustworthy, respectful and professional. They were always very patient with our requests & had great ideas. We are delighted with the final result and confident that the work was undertaken to a high standard. The site was always left clean and tidy which was appreciated as we have a young child. The co-ordination & planning of the build meant there was minimal impact on us, meaning we were able to stay in the property throughout the work. We already have recommend Coldwells to friends & family and will reuse them again in years to come.

Our project was a full internal refurbishment and extension to a 150 year old property. Coldwells Building Company were responsible for delivering all of the joinery works on our build. Being an old property in disrepair, it threw up many technical challenges and obstacles, all of which were expertly overcome by Ross and his team. The communication was excellent. They interacted with our other contractors and tradesman really well and we were always kept informed of what the team were doing, why they were doing it, and when each stage of the build would be complete. If any additional work was required, it was agreed in advance. We were advised the reason why, what our options were, and how much each alternative would costs, thus guaranteeing we retained full control and had no surprises when the time came to pay the bill. We complicated the build by moving into the property before the completion date. The guys on site managed that situation really well. Respecting our family's boundaries, whilst concurrently keeping up with progress of the build. The high quality craftsmanship and standard of finish the team achieved exceeded our expectations. We are delighted with the finished product. We'd have no hesitation in recommending Coldwells Building Company to anyone undertaking a construction project.

Timber clad extension with open-plan kitchen, living/dining area, bathroom and utility room

Honest, reliable, hard working company. Nothing is too much drama, down to earth and very easy to work with. Highly recommended if you are needing small or large tasks done.

Case Studies

Hamilton Place Renovation

Coldwells Buliding Company transformed the ground level of this Aberdeen inner-city home, turning it into a light and bright open-plan space.

For this project, our team removed a load-bearing partition wall to create the kitchen, living and dining area. We replaced the kitchen windows for full-height patio doors to maximise light entering the home.

The original floor was updated with contemporary herringbone-style flooring and our joiners constructed custom oak storage units to fit snugly underneath the stairs.

Outside the home, we raised the height of the patio to create a seamless transition from inside to out and limstone paving has helped modernise the area.

Woodstone House, Inverurie

A double-sided fireplace makes the perfect centrepiece at this deluxe 5-bedroom new build. It's a clever and cosy way of breaking up the space, whilst maintaining flow between the open-plan living room, dining room and kitchen.

A statement staircase with glass balustrade and stainless steel handrails is at the heart of the home, integrating the two levels.

The spacious master bedroom includes an en suite and private balcony to enjoy stunning views of the rural landscape.

The home's exterior is finished with a beautiful combination of K Rend, timber cladding and stone.

A simple, yet refined extension of timber and glass which sits quietly within the rural landscape.

Cornvial was the full refurbishment and extension of a traditional Scottish cottage, including extending into the adjacent byre.

Expansive glazing and black painted Siberian larch helped create a bright and spacious contemporary home for a young family.

Design by Brown + Brown Architects.

Granite, Glass and Zinc Extension

Granite stone, zinc cladding and a fully glazed gable make for a striking combination on this extension in Bieldside, Aberdeenshire.

The addition created space for a generous open-plan kitchen, dining and family room, utility room, bathroom and master bedroom with en suite.

Bi-fold doors open onto a large, tiled patio and granite bullnose steps lead to the garden.

Coldwells Building Company also constructed the granite garage, granite garden wall and parking area.

Coldwells Building Company undertook a complete restoration of this dilapidated farm cottage. We developed the client’s brief to create a cosy one-bedroom guest house whilst maintaining elements of the property’s original charm. Our team stripped the tired interior to its original stonework. Walls and partitions were re-framed, new insulation and plasterboard added, while modern doors, fireplace and a fresh coat of paint helped bring the farmhouse into the 21st century. Walls separating two small bedrooms were knocked down to create one large, spacious bedroom. The original staircase was removed from its awkward position at the centre of the living room. It was rebuilt and fitted in a corner, creating extra space and a more practical flow to the house. The bathroom, kitchen and conservatory were all refurbished to a high interior specification making this a comfortable and modern cottage home.

New Build 5 Bedroom Granite Home

Our clients required a modern family home, with a touch of the traditional.
Influenced by local custom, granite stone provided a strong and elegant exterior for this 570msq property. Its natural beauty is further enhanced by specially chosen Welsh roof slate which blends beautifully into the surrounding landscape. The split level home includes 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 spacious living and dining areas, kitchen, garage, greenhouse, external fireplace and balcony. Contemporary full-height glass doors and windows allow light to pass right through the home. While a custom-made oak, flared staircase provides an eye-catching feature connecting the two levels. The end result is an integrated modern-traditional home which is inviting, bright and spacious.
