Listed builidng renovation and Rear glass extension
This is another excellent example of what a top notch design and renovation firm can do with a listed building in a very exclusive neighbourhood. This is a fairly large sized, detached home right on Holland Park that already benefited from a larger garden than most homes of its age in the Borough of Kensington. Knowing of our reputation for high quality design and restoration work, and especially our sensitivity towards the needs of listed buildings, LUX Construction was the natural choice for this project.
Unlike many of our past projects, the main goal of this renovation was not to add more living space. Rather, our remit was to thoroughly modernise the interior space and garden, without compromising the stately elegance of the home in any way. As with many listed buildings, there were strict restrictions on what could be changed, and the frontage appearance had to be maintained exactly.
Our designers had a fairly free hand with the internal spaces, though. Several more public areas, such as the main stairs, hallway and the formal reception room were changed only minimally, to preserve the elegance and formality of their function in entertaining. Other areas such as the kitchens and bathrooms were given a complete makeover, providing a modern and comfortable, yet still elegant living space.
The owners did want a rear extension into the garden, and we were able to offer them several options that drew on the existing beauty of the house and garden, with a modern feel. The design chosen included an extension with a full, 2-storey glass wall facing a modern, minimalist garden area that blends in perfectly with the classic lines of the house itself.
