R G Design & Build
RG Design and Build is a York based construction company specialising in bespoke residential property developments incorporating every aspect of construction work.
We are able to oversee entire construction projects beginning with the initial process of sketching out ideas, managing the planning stage and finally overseeing the construction phase of the development.
It is important to us that a close working relationship is developed with our clients to enable a thorough approach to the design and build. We have established working relationships with various specialist craftsmen and designers whose expertise we can draw on should it be required for any given project.
We are always interested in discussing ideas and taking on new work so if you have a project in mind, large or small and would like to arrange an initial consultation, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Working closely with the client throughout the build process, we were able to achieve a very detailed finish. The aim from the outset was to be as sympathetic as possible towards the character and style that the Architect of the original house had achieved. The house was designed and built in the 1960's by a local Architect who on this development at least, favoured generous room sizes and a clean simplistic aesthetic to the interior. Rather than leaving the project having added a room or two, in this case the house ended the build with one room less than when we started. This had the desired effect of lifting the level of natural light on the ground floor and utterly transforming the way the house was used as a result.
We were asked to design and develop the existing kitchen layout along with building a small extension to the rear of the property. We decided along with the client that a bold modern addition to this Victorian terraced townhouse could work really well if it was kept as simple in appearance as possible. In the end, our addition made a complete change to the way the ground floor was used and the addition of large fixed roof lights and tall bespoke doors allowed light to flood in.
Shipton by Benningbrough
Working from a set of Architects planning drawings, we constructed an extension to the kitchen with a steel goalpost structure supporting the roof. This enabled us to bring forward the effective building line of the property into the large rear garden. Coupled with an extensive remodelling of the entire ground floor, the property was transformed throughout. The addition of a beautiful handmade oak staircase to replace the original as well as reconfiguring the pitch of the stair resulted in a huge difference to the house.
