Painting and Decorating of New Build Housing
Phoenix Avenue, Winchester and Lance Way, High Wycombe SC4 Decorators has performed very well on both projects in 2017-18 (value £78K and £201k) for which I was the Senior Contract Surveyor. They have managed and supervised their operatives very well in terms of quality of work, correct labour levels as and when required, general house-keeping was excellent and John Norton kept in constant contact with both our contracts manager and site manager throughout the project on a regular basis. They attended every site progress meeting without fail and were very helpful with regards to overcoming problems on site with minimal fuss. From a commercial perspective they were within budget, minimal variations and the final account was a smooth process. I would highly recommended SC4 Decorators to anyone who wishes to use a reliable, easy to work with painting and decorating contractor who go above and beyond to ensure each project they complete is just as successful as the last. I look forward to working with John and the team on our next project, Conwy Close in Reading and the second phase at Lance Way in High Wycombe.

New 2-Bed End of Terrace
We would like to thank SC4 Carpenters for the efficient, stress free and economic construction of our new two bedroom timber frame home in Wash Common, Newbury. The groundwork's for the property started at the beginning of May and we were able to move in by mid August. By comparison, a nearby property was having a two storey extension constructed in the traditional manner. The building works started during the same week as our groundwork's and is still not completed. We are in no doubt which method we prefer. A passer-by commented yesterday that the house was ‘awesome’ and completely blended in with the existing terraced houses. We would also like to compliment SC4 on their honest communication with us, which enabled us to make our plans without any concerns of late delivery of the project. We would not hesitate to recommend SC4 Carpenters Ltd and timberframe manufacturer Silvaframe Structures Ltd to anybody considering a new build.
Luxury 5-bed home in West Berkshire
This luxurious, energy efficient, 5 bed home was designed and built by SC4 Carpenters Ltd in an area of outstanding natural beauty of West Berkshire to accommodate 4 generations. It replaced a 1930s timber house to gain the benefit of modern conveniences for the 21st century.
Regional finalist for LABC Building Excellence Award 2017, this Turnkey solution was carried out by SC4 Carpenters Ltd in just 20 weeks from completion of groundworks.
The brief for this "grand design" was to create an energy efficient modern home that echoed the original 1930s cedar-clad house, offering extensive views in this area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The resulting house is modern but with a classic feel and layout to meet the diverse and changing needs of a 4-generation family.
Demolition and groundworks commenced in October 2014 with the timber frame structure being delivered in March 2015. The main structure was erected in one day, and watertight within a couple of weeks, enabling the owners to move in by August 2015.
SC4 Carpenters Ltd oversaw all aspects of the build including the design, planning consent, demolition and construction, carrying out the:
- timberframe erect, carpentry and roofing
- kitchen and window fitting
as well as managing the demolition, ground works, mechancial, electrical and heating works, including photovoltaics and a pellet-based biomass boiler feeding under floor heating.
The timber frame structure was manufactured by SC4's partner company SilvaFrame Structures Ltd
The installation included, all to a very high standard of finish:
- Timber frame construction over an insulated concrete form (ICF) basement
- Western Red Cedar cladding
- Green oak feature truss
- Aluminum faced wooden windows upto 4m wide facilitating solar gain
- 3 master bedrooms over two floors with ensuites and sliding glass doors leading onto terrace/veranda
- 2 further bedrooms and family bathroom
- Galleried attic room with hidden flat roof
- Main living room with vaulted ceiling and wood-burning stove
- Large kitchen-diner suited to needs of a four-generation house opening onto a glass roofed terrace and deck.
- 40 kW wood pellet boiler and external 3.5t pellet hopper
- 22-zone underfloor heating system
- 4 kW PV (16 solar panels)
