Ellis's calm demeanour, initiative, and workplace contributions make him a deserving Apprentice of the Year.

2025 NW MBAs, Guy Mccullough Building Services Ltd., 94SCR, Sustainable Building Award winner

Guy Mccullough Building Services Ltd, Sustainable Building Award

Guy McCullough Building Services Ltd transformed a dated 1980s bungalow into a stunning, energy-efficient modern home. The project preserved the original structure to reduce carbon impact, while incorporating advanced insulation, solar power, MVHR ventilation, and an air-source heat pump. Demanding close attention to detail and adopting some cutting-edge building techniques, this skilled team delivered a beautifully designed home that champions sustainability. Judges praised the project as: ‘A great example of a project designed to be cost efficient and sustainable to the environment too.’

Herdwick Construction Ltd, 5TGP3, Large Renovation Project

Herdwick Construction Ltd, Large Renovation Project

This large renovation project transformed a long-abandoned village hall into a luxurious, energy-efficient family home. Blending history with innovation, the design highlights include reclaimed historic stonework, cutting-edge insulation, renewable energy systems, and integrated smart home technology. Every element was carefully considered to honour the building’s rich heritage while creating a modern, sustainable living space. The result is not only a stunning residence but also a model for environmentally responsible design. By preserving original features and embracing green technology, the project successfully bridges the past and future, redefining what it means to live in a home with both history and heart.

2025 NW MBAs, J C Building Services, 73FXL, Bathroom Project winner

J C Building Services, Bathroom Project

The J C Building Services Team delivered a unique master bedroom ensuite that’s been specially concealed within the bedroom’s wardrobe space. A free-standing Carrara marble bath carved from just one piece of stone with wall-mounted controls, and a floor-mounted filler tap is the centre piece of the room. The team overcame significant logistical challenges loading the bath into the bathroom – the bath needed to be forklifted into the adjoining room, placed onto a trolley and rolled across the finished flooring due to the sizes of materials used. Judges praised the good use of space and placement of bathroom facilities.

2025 NW MBAs, G Ellison Builders, DBSWF, Small Renovation Project winner

G Ellison Builders, Small Renovation Project

This small renovation project aimed to extend the rear of the property under permitted development to create a larger kitchen and dining area. Key highlights include the use of matching materials and floor-to-ceiling external sliding doors and windows, maximising natural light. A significant challenge was sourcing specific materials directly from Poland as requested by the client, to achieve a familiar aesthetic. This involved managing language barriers and coordinating international shipping, requiring regular meetings with the architect and clients. The project deserves recognition for overcoming these unique logistical and communication hurdles to deliver the client's vision.

2025 NW MBAs, Andrew Jackson of Jackson Homes Cheshire Limited, JSKHW, Outstanding Builder of the Year winner

Andrew Jackson of Jackson Homes Cheshire Limited, Outstanding Builder of the Year

Andrew Jackson and Jackson Homes Cheshire Limited was nominated by their client for the company’s exceptional service during a large rebuild under extreme weather conditions, which allowed them to finish the project within budget and on-time despite delays caused by the elements. They expertly managed all stakeholders, minimised environmental impacts and disruption to the local area with robust planning systems in place. Their courteous, knowledgeable team provided regular updates and site visits, demonstrating excellent housekeeping skills. The Jackson Homes team also maintained positive attitudes throughout the build, ensuring a smooth operation and demonstrating their extensive industry knowledge, quality workmanship, client focus and resilience, make them a deserving winner of Outstanding Builder of the Year Award.

2025 NW MBAs, Kev Wilson Builders Ltd, 9N3TY, Housebuilder Award winner

Kev Wilson Builders Ltd, Housebuilder Award

Blending sleek design with outstanding craftsmanship, Kev Wilson Builders Ltd has scooped the Housebuilder Award for this stunning modern home. The project pairs clean architectural lines with thoughtful sustainability – solar panels, brise soleil shading, and a remarkable U-value set the eco tone. Inside, a sense of luxury flows through features like a sun-drenched double-height picture window leading out to a floor-level ornamental pond and bespoke exercise pool. Despite complex access and a woodland-bedrock setting, the build is a triumph. Judges commented on its ‘great use of the latest in design materials.’

Paul Ennis Construction Limited, Medium Renovation Project

Paul Ennis Construction Limited won the medium renovation project award for their outstanding work on a rear single-storey extension, creating a spacious family room with a modern kitchen and ground floor shower room. The design features large bi-folding doors and twin roof lanterns, flooding the space with natural light. Throughout the project, the team maintained excellent communication, sharing regular updates, photos, and emails while the clients were at work. Thoughtfully, they also constructed a temporary kitchen, ensuring the family experienced minimal disruption. Their attention to detail and client-focused approach contributed to the project’s smooth, on-time completion.

SR Design & Build Ltd, 2PCFH, Commercial or Public Sector Project

SR Design & Build Ltd, Commercial or Public Sector Project

SR Design and Build were tasked with removing an existing outbuilding and rebuilding an extension to a hotel – a heritage asset in Lancaster – using required materials that fit according to the building. They created rooms called ‘Secret Suites’ as they’re situated in a secret courtyard in the city centre. From the outside it looks misleadingly small, and when you enter the front door, you are met with winding corridors that lead you to two boutique suites. The client had a vision for the rooms, and the team brought it to life using their expertise and experience.

2025 NW MBAs, Cheshire Design & Build NW Ltd, NDYZQ, Kitchen Project winner

Cheshire Design & Build NW Ltd, Kitchen Project

This kitchen and lounge remodel aimed to create a stunning open plan living space, integrating the garden. A key highlight was transforming three rooms into one spacious area, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor living. The main challenge was managing a clean and safe working environment while the family remained in the property. This was addressed through weekly site meetings to ensure the project stayed on schedule and any variations to the original plan were agreed upon. Neighbours were kept informed throughout to ensure a smooth build process, and the client attests to the positive impact on their family life and the quality of the workmanship, making it an award-worthy project.

2025 NW MBAs, G Ellison Builders, HY3GZ, North West, Business of the Year 2

G Ellison Builders, Business of the Year

Between 2023 and 2025, G Ellison Builders demonstrated strong leadership by securing new contracts and expanding its client base while maintaining great customer satisfaction. A key achievement during trying economic times was retaining their valued team members, providing stability and security for staff who had given so much to the business. When rising inflation, material price hikes and soaring interest rates caused project delays, they maintained positive client experiences through personalised service, active listening, regular communication, and proactive problem-solving. Their approach has ensured clients feel valued and supported, even when unforeseen circumstances force changes to their original plans.
