2. Download the member benefits pack and email it to them.
Encourage them to contact us
Tell them how to get in touch with our FMB membership team to discuss next steps (don't forget to mention if they apply now there is no upfront inspection fee to pay!):

2. Ask them to call us on 0330 333 777 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) - making sure they mention you as the referring member.
Reward
On activation of the new membership** we will apply a 25% discount to your existing subscription, or if the amount left to pay is less than the discount to be applied, we will apply the discount to your next renewal.
There is no limit to the number of qualifying referrals that you can make so start sharing and save £££s off your membership!
** Your referred builder must pass our vetting and inspection process (this takes 2-3 weeks on average) to become a member.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can I invite to join?
To be considered, prospective members must be a UK-based small to medium-sized building firm, or sole trader, working in the construction sector with at least 12 months’ trading history.
How much will I save?
You will save 25% on your subscription fee for each prospective member you refer, and who is accepted into membership of the FMB. Each referral you successfully make equates to a saving of £171 excluding VAT.
The reward discount is payable upon activation of the new membership and will be applied to either the existing membership subscription OR the renewal membership subscription (if the outstanding amount on your current subscription is less than the discount to be applied).
How will the savings be applied to my subscription?

Can I refer more than one building company?
There is currently no limit to the number of qualifying referrals that a member can make.
Can I fill in the referral form on behalf of the prospective member?
No. The referral form must be completed by the prospective member so they can give their consent for us to contact them. We will only be able to follow up referrals that are submitted from the prospective member and not the referring member.
Can the prospective member apply using the Join form on the website?
No, we ask that prospective members fill in the referral form on the website at www.fmb.org.uk/referralform and not the main Join form. We need to track the referring FMB member and this can only be done using the referral form.
What checks will the prospective member need to pass?
All new members must meet our membership criteria as well as passing our vetting and inspection process. This will include:
- Checks of trading history, insurance, credit history and director checks for limited companies.
- Proof of identification, proof of trading history, proof of public liability insurance cover.
- We then will agree a time for our independent inspection partner to visit a current or recently completed client site to carry an inspection of their work.
This process provides credible proof that our members build better and is what sets Master Builders apart from the competition.
What happens if the prospective member withdraws their application or fails their inspection?
To qualify for the 25% off your subscription offer, the prospective member must have completed the full join process and accepted into FMB membership.
The Federation of Master Builders (“The FMB”) is the promoter.
The Member Referral Scheme (“Offer”) refers to a promotion to save 25% off an FMB membership subscription when a new member is referred by an existing member.
- To qualify for the Offer, an existing FMB member will refer a prospective member, who must have their application approved, and their membership activated.
- The Offer is 25% off the standard membership fee of £820.63 (including VAT).
- The Offer will apply to existing members only.
- The Offer discount will be applied to the current membership subscription, assuming greater than 25% of the subscription is outstanding at the time the new member is activated. If there is less than 25% of the current subscription outstanding at the time the new member is activated, the discount will be applied to the renewal subscription.
- All applications are subject to The FMB’s standard membership requirements and vetting and inspection processes. Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into membership.
- Should the applicant withdraw an application after The FMB have received it or any information arises from the vetting process that mean the membership application is unable to be processed, the Offer discount will not be applied to the referring member’s subscription.
- The FMB will not be able to share any details of rejected referred applications with the referring member.
- The FMB cannot be held responsible for any lost or misdirected applications.
- This Offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offers available to existing FMB members.
- The FMB reserves the right to cancel or amend this Offer and these Terms and Conditions without notice.
