This interesting project involved the reconstruction of an existing ground floor rear extension of open it up completely into the original Corbett Estate house and form a new kitchen / dining space and at the same time to form a new bedroom and en-suite of the loft.
To do so, we installed the usual major steel structure to support the back wall of the house. New Velux windows and bi-fold doors were fitted to flood the space with light. We also created a new utility room and a new WC.
The loft bedroom features full height French doors with metal balustrade, maximing the views over the adjacent park.
The very attractive kitchen was fitted using carcasses and doors / decorative panels from different suppliers, with quartz worktops. We laid new engineered timber flooring internally and a stunning new Victorian style tiled front path.

Our remit here was to build a full width kitchen extension to open up the original back two rooms of this Edwardian home into a light and airy new kitchen dining room.
The kitchen is a top-of-range Howdens contemporary style with a full range of integrated Miele appliances. The worktops are granite, selected by the customers following a trip to a stone warehouse. The work included the creation of a new shower room and utility room, as well as the sympathetic refurbishment of the original dining room.
Externally, we built a new semi-circular patio with retaining walls, surfaced with high quality porcelain tiles that ran both inside and out, with a flush threshold to the large bi-fold doors creating a huge linked interior / exterior space.
As the family remained in occupation throughout, as usual, we formed a temporary kitchen in the back bedroom, so that they could enjoy a near normal life during the works.

Our clients wanted to fully renovate their late Victorian terraced home and to add a contemporary extension to the rear. The general renovation included a new kitchen, a new bathroom & shower room and the general sympathetic refurbishment of the interiors. The front facade, unlike the rest of the street, except the immediate neighbour, did not have a bay window, presumed to be because it was originally built as a shop. This was to have a new bay window added and have the old render removed to expose & restore the original London stock brickwork. The extension was clad & roofed in black Accoya timber, an innovative use of the material. In reality, parts of the rear of the original house were found to be structurally unsound, so we ended up re-building the most of it. Even more challenging was the front elevation. Once the original render was removed, we found the reason why the house was so different from most of its neighbours – WW2 bomb damage had blown off the original Ground Floor bay window projection and had caused so much damage that much of facade had been hastily and poorly re-built. This required the temporary supporting of the structure from foundations to roof level and the strengthening of the facade. The facade was then finished with yellow stock brick slips to achieve the originally planned appearance.

Acorn Construction did an amazing job building our side and rear kitchen extension (with utility area and shower room). They also installed new fencing and updated our garden. The 6 month project was on time and on budget and managed brilliantly by Colin. Colin and his team's work is of a very high standard. We worked closely with Colin who gave us really good advice on choices of materials and appliances. Colin and his team showed a close attention to detail and followed our brief delivering our dream house. The team were always professional, tidy, courteous and friendly. We highly recommend Acorn Construction.
