Expanding Living Space: The Vision Behind the Project

At Antonio Grano, we recently had the pleasure of working with a growing family eager to expand their home. Their goal was clear: increase the size of their house by building a side and rear extension. Additionally, they wanted to transform their existing garage into a comfortable living space. To achieve this, we utilised the underused area beside the house, maximizing every inch of available space.

Enhancing Natural Light

To create a bright and inviting atmosphere, we installed patio doors that provide seamless access to the rear gardens. Additionally, we incorporated three velux windows, flooding the kitchen and dining area with natural light. This renovation not only expanded the living space but also enhanced the overall ambiance of the family home.

A comprehensive structural remodel, wrap around extension, and attic conversion

We executed a large structural overhaul that touched every part of the property. The project involved a double side and rear extension, but the most dramatic change was the full removal of the original roof. In its place, we constructed a completely new, extended roof structure designed to maximize head height and habitable space. By extending the roofline, we were able to incorporate four new bedrooms, each with its own en-suite. This turned the top floor from a simple storage loft into a luxury accommodation wing capable of hosting the entire extended family in comfort, flooded with natural light through large Velux-style windows.

A dental and aesthetics clinic approached the Antonio Grano team to fully remodel their long-standing practice. The client desired an open-plan layout that would create a spacious and welcoming environment. This transformation was not just about aesthetics; it was about enhancing functionality and comfort for both staff and patients.

Key Requirements for the New Space. The new design needed to incorporate several essential features: A disabled toilet facility A large, welcoming reception area A new office and kitchen area Full replacement of all period sash windows.  Climate Control for Comfort - Given the need for heat and comfort during warmer months, we introduced a comprehensive air conditioning solution throughout the practice.

Full Structural Renovation, Extension, Attic Integration and Outdoor Revamp

Renovating a property can be a complex challenge, especially when it involves structural changes and creative use of space. This project tackled a full structural renovation that not only reinforced the building’s integrity but also transformed the attic into a luxurious master ensuite.  A single storey extension was added to the lower ground of this property, with a glass's ceiling.  

The extension to the lower floor, provides a patio  area with glass retainers,  to the double doors that open from the newly arranged ground floor.   The outdoor area was redesigned to complement the new living spaces, creating a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor comfort. Large Rear Extension - creating a large kitchen dining area, self contained annexe & new patio

This substantial rear extension was conceived to support a growing family while preserving a sense of refinement and independence. A thoughtfully designed, self-contained annexe was created for the client’s mother, offering privacy, comfort, and seamless connection to the main home. The architecture balances generosity with sensitivity, ensuring each generation can live together with ease.

At the heart of the extension sits a discerning kitchen and expansive dining space, crowned by a motorised apex roof that floods the interior with natural light and drama in equal measure. Fully opening glazing dissolves the boundary between inside and out, revealing uninterrupted views across the new patio toward the tennis courts and spa set within the garden grounds. The result is an elegant open vista—designed for daily living, family gathering, and moments of calm indulgence.

The demolition of an existing dated property to create a new build 11,000 Sq Ft home. 

The existing property, while functional, could no longer accommodate the scale or sophistication they desired. Rather than working within the limitations of an ageing structure, the decision was made to knock it down entirely and begin anew.

What followed was the creation of an exceptional 11,000 sq ft new-build home, designed from the ground up to offer space, comfort, and refined living. Central to this transformation was the addition of an impressive 3,000 sq ft basement level. This was engineered and crafted to house a private cinema, a fully equipped gym, and a tranquil home spa. This subterranean retreat became the emotional heart of the residence, a place where entertainment and wellbeing come together seamlessly.
