Re-slating of the new Leeds Museum included the re-roofing of the central Rotunda roof. Using new Capital grade Heather Blue Penrhyn slates obtained from from Mc Alpines slate quarries in Wales slating to the curved roof areas took much time skill and effort to obtain the desired standard required by the client. Each slate had to be carefully trimmed on both sides to fit the curved roof profile whilst maintaining the correct sidelap. Special care had to be taken whilst the roof was battened to ensure the the curved effect throughout the roof and an even gauge was maintained. The Lantern Roof was reslated in specially shaped Penrhyn scalloped slates to produce a feature effect again sourced from Mc Alpines A high level of skill is required when working on steep roof pitches like this one.
