D Hatcher & Sons’ complete renovation of a burnt-out Victorian farmhouse at Preston’s Farm won the following awards: North Kesteven District Council Building Control 2012 Award Winner for Best Domestic Project; LABC East Midlands Winner for Best Conversion 2013; LABC National Finalist for Best Conversion 2013. This project included the construction of a new garden room extension, new doors and windows throughout, new heating system and completely new drainage system, room alterations and a farmhouse kitchen and bathrooms. All of the work was carried out by our own employees and carefully selected local subcontractors for electrical and mechanical systems.

The property was designed specifically for the client and included much mechanical and electrical design (e.g. air source heating). Unforeseen problems with the ground strata were overcome as strip foundations were changed to a ring beam foundation. The property was built ready for the client to decorate the internal and external themselves.

Throughout this project, the offices remained fully operational and we were respectful to adhere to security and noise restrictions. The work included the installation of structural steelwork, new walling and doors, plus automated door access systems. The new doors, skirtings and architraves were purpose-made oak to match the existing.

D Hatcher and Sons Ltd was asked to construct a new extension to the Church of Our Lady of Lincoln and to provide an updated decoration to the main church in keeping with the new extension. Although only small, this was a complicated extension because of the varying structural steel and reconstituted stone pieces that were to be included. Much work was also required to install disabled ramp access and a raised external platform.

This project needed careful planning and execution as well as excellent engineering due to the age of the original church and the fact that construction was taking place on the banks of the River Slea. In addition, we also needed to ensure minimal disruption to the daily functionality of Sleaford as the extension was being built on the border of the path and only roadway through the town centre.

D Hatcher & Sons Ltd was instructed to carry out the conversion of a listed former brewhouse on Greestone Terrace in uphill Lincoln into a habitable space for the owners. Great due care and attention was required to complete this project. Various external brickwork repairs were undertaken and the roof required much attention. New mains supplies and drainage also had to be installed. The project maintained many of the property’s original features while adding a modern twist that the owners desired.
